Author Guidelines

Indonesian EFL Journal publishes high-quality, peer-reviewed research in English education, linguistics, applied linguistics, and literature. Authors are expected to follow the guidelines below before submitting manuscripts for review.

1. Manuscript Types Accepted

IEFLJ accepts the following article types:

  • Research articles (qualitative, quantitative, or mixed-methods)
  • Conceptual or theoretical papers
  • Systematic reviews or literature reviews
  • Classroom action research (CAR) studies
  • Critical essays or discourse analyses

2. General Manuscript Requirements

  • Language: Manuscripts must be written in academic English with clarity and coherence.
  • Length: 5,000–8,000 words (excluding references and appendices).
  • File Format: Submit manuscripts in Microsoft Word (.doc/.docx) format.
  • Originality: Submissions must be original, unpublished, and not under review elsewhere.
  • Ethics: Authors must declare ethical approval and informed consent for studies involving human participants.

3. Manuscript Structure

Please structure your manuscript using the following format:

Title Page

  • Article title (concise and descriptive)
  • Author names and affiliations
  • ORCID iDs (if available)
  • Email address of the corresponding author

Abstract and Keywords

  • Abstract: 150–250 words summarizing purpose, methods, results, and conclusions.
  • Keywords: 4–6 relevant terms

Main Body

  • Introduction
  • Literature Review (or Background)
  • Methods
  • Results and Discussion
  • Conclusion
  • Acknowledgments (if applicable)
  • References (APA 7th Edition)

4. Citation and Referencing Style

Use APA 7th Edition for in-text citations and reference lists. Examples:

  • In-text: (Smith, 2021) or (Jones & Lee, 2022)
  • Reference list:

Jones, R., & Lee, A. (2022). Critical discourse in classroom contexts. Routledge.

5. Submission Process

Submit manuscripts via IEFLJ’s online submission system or by email (if applicable). Include:

  • Manuscript (anonymized for review)
  • Cover letter
  • Ethical clearance (if required)

6. Peer Review Process

IEFLJ follows a double-blind peer review system. Manuscripts will be reviewed by at least two reviewers within approximately 4–6 weeks of submission. Review outcomes: Accept, Minor Revision, Major Revision, Reject.

7. Article Processing Charges (APC)

  • APC: USD xxx (payable only after acceptance)
  • Waivers may be considered upon request for authors from low-income countries

8. Plagiarism Policy

IEFLJ uses plagiarism detection tools (e.g., Turnitin). Manuscripts with plagiarism exceeding 20% will be automatically rejected or returned for revision.
