Citations and References

All manuscripts submitted to English Review: Journal of English Education (ERJEE) must follow the American Psychological Association (APA) 7th Edition referencing style. Authors are required to ensure consistency and accuracy in all in-text citations and reference entries.

1. In-Text Citations (APA 7th Edition)

Use the author–date system for in-text citations. Depending on the structure, citations may be narrative or parenthetical.

Single Author

  • Narrative: Smith (2020) argues that...
  • Parenthetical: (Smith, 2020)

Two Authors

  • Narrative: Jones and Lee (2021) found that...
  • Parenthetical: (Jones & Lee, 2021)

Three or More Authors

  • Use the first author's surname followed by et al.
  • Narrative: Ali et al. (2022) observed...
  • Parenthetical: (Ali et al., 2022)

Direct Quotation

Include page numbers:

  • (Johnson, 2020, p. 45) or Johnson (2020) stated, “...” (p. 45).

2. Reference List Format

The reference list should be placed at the end of the manuscript and arranged alphabetically by the surname of the first author. Use a hanging indent for each reference.

Important Notes

  • Use italics for journal titles and book titles.
  • Use sentence case for article and chapter titles.
  • Provide DOIs for journal articles and digital publications where available.
  • All cited sources in the text must appear in the reference list, and vice versa.
