Reviewer Guidelines

The English Review: Journal of English Education (ERJEE) greatly values the contributions of reviewers in maintaining the academic quality and integrity of our journal. The peer review process ensures that only original, methodologically sound, and relevant research is published.
Below are guidelines to assist reviewers in conducting fair, constructive, and ethical evaluations.
1. General Responsibilities
- Conduct an objective, fair, and timely review.
- Maintain confidentiality—do not share or discuss the manuscript with others.
- Declare any conflict of interest (e.g., personal, institutional, or financial ties with the authors or research).
- Provide a comprehensive, respectful, and professional assessment.
2. Key Criteria for Evaluation
Please assess the manuscript based on the following:
a. Relevance and Scope
- Does the topic align with the journal’s scope (English language pedagogy, linguistics, applied linguistics, literature, etc.)?
- Does the manuscript address a current issue or gap in the field?
b. Originality and Contribution
- Is the work original and not a duplication of previous research?
- Does it provide new insights, theoretical advancement, or pedagogical implications?
c. Quality of Content
- Are the research questions or objectives clearly stated?
- Is the methodology sound and appropriate for the research type?
- Are the findings supported by sufficient evidence and analysis?
d. Structure and Clarity
- Is the manuscript logically organized (Abstract, Introduction, Methods, Results, Discussion, Conclusion)?
- Is the writing clear and concise? Is the language academically appropriate?
- Are references properly cited and formatted (APA 7th Edition)?
e. Ethical Considerations
- Has ethical clearance been addressed (if involving human participants)?
- Is plagiarism or data manipulation suspected?
3. Reviewer Recommendation Options
In your review report, please select one of the following recommendations:
- Accept without revisions
- Minor revisions required
- Major revisions required
- Reject
Please justify your recommendation clearly and offer constructive feedback to help authors improve their work, regardless of your final decision.
4. Submitting Your Review
Your review report should include:
- A brief summary of the manuscript in your own words
- Comments for the editor only (optional)
- Comments for the author(s), organized by section or topic
- A clear recommendation from the options above
Reviews should be submitted within 14 days of acceptance unless an extension has been requested and granted.
